GERALD (“Jerry”) R. VELARDE is a sole practitioner in Albuquerque. His practice mainly involves consumer and small business bankruptcy or workouts. Mr. Velarde serves as on the Chapter 13 Plan Revision Committee appointed by the Bankruptcy Court. He serves as a board member for the Bankruptcy section of the State Bar and is a past chairperson of the section. From 1980 through 1991, Mr. Velarde practiced bankruptcy law in Dallas, Texas. Since moving back to New Mexico in 1991, he has practiced bankruptcy law mainly as a sole or small-firm practitioner. He earned his B.S in Chemical Engineering and J.D. degrees from the University of New Mexico. Mr. Velarde has been a speaker at several Annual Bankruptcy Year in Review seminars presented by the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico and other seminars dealing with consumer bankruptcy matters.

Mr. Velarde has prepared numerous papers which accompany his presentations. He has also co-authored an article with Judge James Starzynski entitled: When Worlds Collide Bankruptcy and Domestic Relations: When to go to (Bankruptcy) Court and When Not to.
